Bummer – I use this service quite often. Paypal is one of the great things that’s come out of the internet. I received this email from them today:

We are writing to let you know that PayPal’s BillPay service will be discontinued in early August, 2005. If you currently use BillPay, you will need to make other arrangements for your online bill payments prior to August to avoid any interruption in service. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, and we will send you periodic reminders as the cancellation date approaches.

None of your pending payments will be affected by this announcement; however, payments should not be scheduled after August 1, 2005 in order to ensure that they are completed.

Please be advised that this will not affect your PayPal account. You will still be able to use PayPal to pay for purchases on eBay and thousands of other merchants on the Web, as well as to send or receive money online.

If you have any questions, please contact PayPal customer service at paypal@paypal.com or (402) 938-3631.

Sincerely,
PayPal

  1. can you get the same service thru your bank? i like online billpay as well and have used it thru my bank for a couple of years.

  2. Yeah, I can, but that takes time to setup – and I want simple, damnit! I’m actually starting to doubt the validity of the paypal email – I’ve been getting TONS of paypal SPAM lately from freaks who are trying to lure people onto a fake website that looks just like paypal. Then, if you enter any information, your checking account can be dry the next day … not to mention credit cards, bank loans, etc. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if they actually discontinue it or not.

Plus, I sorta like using paypal’s bill pay feature for some bills, because I know the debtor is paying a fee to paypal to accept payment through them 😉

  3. PayPalSucks says:

Who cares, PayPal and Ebay double-dip on commisions and are bleeding thier costumers dry.
    Down with Ebay!!

  4. It’s true… you see the same notice on PayPal.com when you click on BillPay. I sent them a message that I am considering closing my account with them.. This is very disappointing!!
