Both my boyfriend and I found Hide and Seek disappointing mainly because it was just another clone of Identity, or more recently, The Secret Window. Guess I’m kind of over the evil within the villain himself gag. Haven’t seen Swimming Upstream yet - and I’m Aussie - shame on me! Do you know the main actor Jesse Spencer (what a hottie!!) used to be in an Australian soap called Neighbours?

Thanks for the tips on Angels in America. I’ve seen it at the Video store ( yes, I’m not a netflix junkie yet either ) but never picked it up. I remember the preview for Swimming Upstream and have never had a desire to watch it since. It just seemed like the type of movie that would anger me too much. The father is REALLY an S.O.B. My ex was in town this weekend from L.A. and we went to see F4 together. Having followed Chris Evans from “Not Another Teen Movie” and “Cellular” I couldn’t wait to see him burn his clothes off…. A definite YUM!!

I posted about the F4 movie, simply because I liked it, and didn’t see why all of the critics were slamming it. Sure, it is campy, and certainly not Oscar-worthy, but it is based on 4 characters that can turn invisible, stretch, burn, and be rock hard. Chris Evans, while not a great actor, is definitely a great thing to look at. I love the superhero movies, and I definitely loved this one… and the fact that his clothes burned off (saw it coming, and focused my attention). Glad that you had fun watching movies! I always love catching up on them!!!

And one more thing: I know exactly what you mean about Angels in America. It was completely riveting, and should totally be required viewing by all the bigoted people this country has to offer. Shove that down the throat of a Christian-conservative from the south, at least then, they would realize we do exist, and we do actually have a valid expression of life and love! (PS, Jeffery Wright is simply fucking amazing in that movie.)

I’m not much of a movie watcher.

But, at 51, I survived the 80’s and 90’s when all but 2 of my good friends died. Forty-two (42) friends of mine died form 1981-1998. I only know 2 friends left from my heydays and they’ve both moved out of Texas. All my current gay friends are in recovery. I attend a gay AA center that saw 100’s die during those 2 decades. To seee and hear what the 20-something’s are doing today with Crystal meth and unprotected sex is quite disheartening. They have learned nothing as they believe they are invulnerable. I’ll stop now.

Back in my student days, I’d sometimes go into town on a Saturday and catch three films in a row at the cinema - the occasion I got to see Antz, Elizabeth and The mask of Zorro being particularly memorable.

Cate Blanchett is one of those rare younger actresses who turns in consistently excellent performances. If you’ve not seen An ideal husband, it’s well worth seeking out.
